When we talk about autism, we picture in our minds person's that have distinct facial features, people with underdeveloped social skills incapable of functioning normally and have difficulty honing their verbal skills. But did you know that a person might have autism without even having to display those symptoms?
Autism has a broader aspect that what we normally know. People diagnosed with autism display varied behavior and symptoms from one another. There are numerous symptoms that an autistic person can display and can range from mild to severe symptoms. Those that display mild symptoms are known to be victims of Asperger's Syndrome, named after its discoverer Hans Asperger, a Viennese child psychologist.
Basically, Aspergers syndrome is the mildest form of autism. People with Asperger's syndrome usually are talented, intelligent and are seemingly very normal. Some symptoms included in Asperger's syndrome include being confused and disoriented in social gatherings, have a passionate interest in just a single topic or object, and has a hard time making eye contact, among others. But otherwise, they are able to maintain normal lives, able to take care of themselves and maintain a career.
Because the symptoms, commonly scoping communication and social skills, are mild, Asperger's syndrome can only be diagnosed once the patient has grown up, when these mentioned skills are usually developed and are significant for the everyday life.
Asperger's syndrome though is not regarded as a disability by many experts, in fact many notable persons have been thought to have the condition. If you think your have Asperger's syndrome, then talk to an expert and see if it is causing you troubles.
